Greetings SDH,

The SDH forum has been through its share of uphill battles with members taking matters into their own hands. Fortunately, our staff has convened a meeting to merge our collective intuition and experiences into a positive outcome for our community. We have witnessed the barbaric and inhumane acts of intolerance around the forums, it's not only breaking forum rules but it's creating a hostile forum for many members that come here for a good time to browse the site. Wise decisions are often disregarded in favor of far less substandard behavior. The SDH staff has taken notice of these changes, we're not immune to what's happening. Our coefficient effort to sustain a habitable environment for all members remains the same. The weight of our concerted drive is to reach this goal of peace throughout SDH.

As you've noticed, our forum Board Rules are posted. We expect all members to respect the Board Rules and all fellow members, warning points will be enforced when infraction of simple Board Rules are disregarded. Too many members have induced senseless and baseless arguments with personal tirades for absolutely no reason at all. The staff encourages a friendly atmosphere within all forums, we cannot hold your hand and tell you how to act unless you're too immature to hold a decent discussion. Imagine you're playing in the sandbox with another kid and MATURE parents have to get involved because a spoiled kid wants his/her way and doesn't want to play fair and steals toys from the other child. These are the cases we're constantly dealing with almost on a daily basis: PURE IMMATURITY. That doesn't even scratch the surface of the nonsensical and often needless flame wars, trolling, spamming, flame-baiting, and a myriad of problematic issues to occur.

All members have a right to their opinion whether you agree to it or not. Use your best judgment (please tell me that we're on the same page here) before you ramble about how you're right and the other person is wrong. Critique the opinions of others without insulting or instigating drama, don't use "put-downs" to berate and embarrass another member just because you're losing a debate, don't agree, or you have a superiority complex about yourself, etc. We're watching everything that happens here---even if it doesn't reach us right when it happens---our staff will put their powers to good use ASAP before another "boiling point."

Too many members avoid reprimand and especially considering the offenses listed here in our BOARD RULES, this ends now, we will give warnings to ANY and ALL members that deserve it for acting less than what's desirable and acceptable by OUR standards. The staff exemplifies members that are of upmost professionalism and even though we're human, we will detect members that are full of themselves and think they're being "cute" to avoid the repercussions of their actions. The staff will issue warnings to those that adamantly refuse to follow easy to understand regulations that we adhere to on the concept of improving our consistency and allowing far less trouble to embroil turmoil among members. We expect all of you to learn from your mistakes, if not, we will escort you out for your willingness to do things your way. We run the show here, nobody is above the forum, when we either waive and/or enforce certain rules (which in this case, we're definitely ENFORCING them) then this should raise awareness for you all.

The arguments about "I did wrong, but they did worse" justification is below poor of an excuse. Those members involved in causing problems will be punished for distracting the staff with subpar issues (I.E. petty arguments about spilled milk and stolen animal crackers are a good example). If you're prolonging the issues, (adding "fuel to the fire" with your comments) then you're just as responsible as the rule breaking offenders. If the problem persists (right in front of you) and fails to be defused within a timely manner then use the report button. Our team of staff members will do their best to rectify any problems that obstruct our conscientious mindset to do what's right in any given situation that comes our way.

You all have the freedom of speech within the context of Board Rules. We understand that not all members provoke problems wherever ground they tread upon, however, as a staff we know which members are more than likely to be recognized for their good deeds and presented with opportunities to succeed. We all have the tools to become what we choose to be, in crafting our lifestyle, we need to be cognizant our surroundings and provide ourselves with the right measures to reach our potential.

The Golden Rule: treat others the way you want to be treated. If you don't follow this extremely simple message, the staff will ensure our system of strong ethics and rudimentary foundation to prevail; it has built this great forum into what you see today.

- SDH Staff

Official Board Rules & Guidelines

Registering an account is an acknowledgement that you intend to follow the rules and decorum of the SDH Forum.

What follows are rules created by the SDH Administration. The Administration reserves the right to alter, enforce, add, or waive any rules for any specific member at any time.

A person is not permitted to have more than one account - PENALTY: 5 Points

Every person is granted one account. (If you become dissatisfied with your user name, you can change it through My Settings)

Don't use foul language - PENALTY: 1 Point

We want SDH to be kept clean, and that includes keeping a clean sounding forum. Use your judgment - we think you know what is right and wrong on a forum.

No trolling or flaming - PENALTY: 2 Points

Don't make posts that are inflammatory just to get people riled up. Substance is the key to not being labeled a troll. Attack the message, not the messenger. Criticize ideas, not people. No member is allowed to engage in public personal attacks on any other member (personal attacks are defined as Personal, Racial, Ethnic, and/or Gender based insults, slurs, or derisive comments).

Don't be snappy or a know it all: People don't appreciate such an attitude and it leads to a cold-feeling forum.

Cyberbullying won't be tolerated here - PENALTY: 3 points

It is the consistent use of any form of electronic communication such as the Internet, phone, tablet, etc. as a weapon of choice to threaten, harass, torture, or humiliate another person. It is the intention to cause harm to another person, moderator's discretion will be used to determine the severity.

Respect the privacy of others - PENALTY: 4 Points

Do not post other's phone numbers, addresses, pictures, etc., without their permission.

No pornographic, sexually offensive, sexually explicit, or objectifying material - PENALTY: 4 Points

Simple rule. Administrator's judgment applies here. Sexually suggestive images will be heavily scrutinized. We'd like for our readers to be able to visit the site at work and share with friends without fear of retribution.

Do not post links or requests for illegal material - PENALTY: 1 Point

No spamming, no commercial-oriented posts, and no flooding with useless content - PENALTY: 2 Points

Blatant advertising of competing products is not tolerated - PENALTY: 3 Points

Do not bump old threads for no reason - PENALTY: 1 Point

Do not post in an inactive topic. Opening a new topic about the subject is preferred.

Do not double post - PENALTY: 1 Point

Posting two or more times in a row is not necessary. There is an edit button for all posts you make, and it should be used. Exceptions will be communicated by the Staff.

Do not post in the wrong forum - PENALTY: 1 Point

If it's SVR2011 related question, post in the SVR2011 forum. Resist the temptation to post something off-topic because you think you'll get "better responses" in a particular forum.

Do not post a topic with partial information - PENALTY: 1 Point

Don't post a topic with only part of the point you want to make and state that you will post the rest of your thought when X amount of people reply. That's a form of spamming and is not allowed.

No "Am I Hot or Not", "show me your girlfriend." etc. threads - PENALTY: 1 Point

There are several places for that already. The occasional picture thread is OK (if we're talking about pictures of members), but this is not a dating forum.

Religious sigs, posts, and PMs are not allowed - PENALTY: 1 Point

This includes quotes from the Bible, Koran, or other religious publication, as well as statements or sigs such as "Jesus Loves You" or "Proud to be a Christian".

Political sigs, posts, and PMs are not allowed - PENALTY: 1 Point

This includes other topics related to politics such as abortion or gun control as well as any statement promoting or insulting certain political ideologies.

Respect those in authority here. Being rude to an Administrator or a Moderator is highly inappropriate and will be dealt with using the highest punishment possible

- PENALTY: Staff discretion

Finally, read the Announcements Forum. There might be other rules and guidelines located there that are not mentioned here that you are expected to be aware of.

We, the administrators of SDHotel, thank you for your cooperation in following these rules and guidelines. Your cooperation makes SDH a better place for everyone.

  • If a violation occurs, the user will receive a number of penalty points appropriate for the severity of that infraction. Reaching a warning level of 10 will result into a permanent suspension / ban from the forum.
  • As you can read scrolling down the page, there will also be other "minor" punishments upon reaching certain amounts of warning level.
  • However, each violation penalty will "expire" every two months per penalty point. Once the penalty expired, the associated penalty points will therefore be automatically removed from the user warning level.

Punishments

10 warning level: Permanent Suspension / Ban

9 warning level: Suspension for 1 month

8 warning level: Suspension for 2 weeks

7 warning level: Can't post for 1 week

6 warning level: Can't post for 3 days

5 warning level: Can't post for 1 day

Not to be that guy, but those "rules" seem kinda pointless since everyone breaks them casually everyday, including staff, & wasn't "bumping" rule done away with?

That's exactly what this post is for. We've been very liberal so far but that will stop now.

I'm usually uncensored when I post with cursing and stuff because that's how I am but if you want me to tone it down I shall comply, usually I can post without them anyway or have no offense in doing so.

My only problem is... I have a bunch of avatars that I made like the one I'm using now, please don't ban me for it. :xd:

Great topic to make. Seeing that many here seem to have no idea what "following rules" means...

Good job RKHT for this topic ;)

It's always been 800kb, I think there isn't actually a size file limit on signature though, just a dimension restriction :P

I was expecting more rule forcing since previous incidents. This is way overdue, but it's still a perfect time.

I just want SDH to be how it used to be; friendly and inviting. I hope enforcing the rules more separates the people who are on here to spew their own way from people who want to actively start intelligent discussions.

I have made many friends from this site but that wouldn't have been at all possible if not for the awesome site we had at the time. Ever since then its been harder to connect to people and I am not only happy for this realisation but will work to change that fact also. A balanced but fair set of rules can make a massive difference even if it doesn't seem so at first.

Thank you RKHT for the thread.

I honestly don't think it would do any good for most members besides the ones who usually follow the rules and kind of get out of hand at times. But other than that..you can't stop things like cursing because it'll always be here regardless lol. That's just my opinion. I actually don't think anyone who is chill & laid back cares about cursing unless they're being cussed at. :P
