Kia Stevens made a name for herself after being trained in Japan by All Japan Women's Pro-Wrestling (AJW) and quickly rising to be one of Japan's top competitors as "Amazing Kong", after debuting in October of 2002. This was evident, when she won the Japan Grand Prix an annual professional wrestling tournament by All Japan Women's Pro-Wrestling to determine the number 1 contender for the WWWA World Heavyweight Championship. Amazing Kong became the WWWA World Heavyweight Championship on January 4, 2004 defeating Ayako Hamada.
In the short history of upstart TNA Wrestling’s “Knockout Division” (their companies version of a women’s division), there has been no greater force than current “Knockout Division” champion Awesome Kong. Although Kong is only the second champion in the division’s history she is setting a standard of dominance that will be remember for some time to come. Her feud with original champ Gail Kim culminated with an unprecedented Women’s Championship match slotted in the main event of TNA Impact! – the companies’ flagship primetime program.
The California native, who’s size and strength weren’t immediately appreciated here in the states, was trained in Japan and given the name Amazing Kong where she wrestled briefly but with some success. She continued to wrestle mostly overseas over the course of the next few years, as well as some brief stops in the states where she wrestled for Shimmer as well as other independent operations. It took only a matter of time for her size and dominance to show as she gained women’s titles in AWA and NWA to name a few. One thing is for sure though, Awesome Kong loves the business and loves to perform and as many know by now her training and passion can’t help but be seen now in TNA.
