Have We Seen the Last of TNA iMPACT! Wrestling?

Impact-Wrestling.jpg

What this means is unclear following the show’s move to Wednesday, but according to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter Destination America made the decision to cancel Impact Wrestling last week. The decision was reportedly made a few days before the announcement that the show was moving to Wednesday and according to the site, those who were informed of the cancellation (including key people at Destination America and Dixie Carter) have not been informed of anything different as of several days after the Wednesday move was announced.

The decision at the time was made to have the show end at the end of the third quarter, or sometime around the last week of September. While Destination America considered the ratings to be good, they did not justify the price that the network is paying out for the show. Several regular Destination America advertisers have specifically expressed a desire not to advertise on Impact. Destination America is known to react quickly to ratings and they’ve dropped nearly every other TNA show except when needed as time fillers. There was hope that going nearly live on May 8th would help with bringing a big number and the network bought an ad in USA Today promoting the show. However that episode did the show’s second-lowest number on the network, a situation not helped by the fact that it was up against the NBA playoffs.

The decision was meant to be kept a secret, similar to how Spike tried to keep their cancellation of Impact quiet last year because it won’t help the remaining episodes of the show if the decision goes public. It was expected that the announcement would be made around the time that it listed its primetime lineup for next season.

While Dixie Carter was made aware of the decision early last week, it seems that most of the talent didn’t know. Carter has yet to respond to any questions about the issue.

Obviously this is a developing story and a lot is uncertain — most importantly, whether the decision to cancel the show or not still stands with the move to Wednesday.

When we have more, we’ll let you know.

According to Dave Meltzer in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Destination America has canceled Impact Wrestling. The decision was reportedly made prior to announcing that they would be moving the show from Friday to Wednesday night. Destination America is rumored to have been interested in using the out in their contract that would see all wrestling programs cease at the end of the ‘season,’ which would come at the end of the financial third quarter in September.

It’s said that existing network sponsors allegedly did not want to advertise with the show, and while the ratings were not totally disappointing, they simply haven’t been high enough to justify the cost of production.

Neither Impact Wresting or Destination America has confirmed the report, and our sources within TNA say they specifically have yet to be notified of any cancellation. We will continue to keep you posted as more news becomes available.

TNA needs a better TV Network and better Executives. Dixie needs to give TNA to Jeff Jarrett and just get out of the Wrestling business.

They should completely move to UK and find a network over there.

But still it is from Meltzer so I don't buy it.

I really wouldn't care if it did cancel because the only people I care about in that company are Mandrews & Taryn Terrell.

well in my opinion The Talents of TNA is better then TNA itself haha there's more potential and if Jerrett would sign them to GFW it would be good to see something new lol

Kind of glad if this is true. TNA should have been stopped completely years ago.

Dave has been saying TNA is going out of business for countless years now and guess what, they're still around. Now I don't pay attention to him or his claims anymore but for years he's been wrong about TNA and just comes off as a typical WWE fanboy. Like I say I'll believe it when it actually happens. The fact that TNA have already announced tour dates for next January in the UK makes me doubt any of these reports.

UPDATE:

It was reported last night that Destination America made the decision to cancel iMPACT! Wrestling last week. This has caused quite the stir among fans, and TNA officials have not answered requests for comment. After being bombarded with questions, TNA’s Bob Ryder posted the following on Twitter:

Bob Ryder ‎@brydertna

"For almost 13 years some people have predicted we were about to go out of business. It's no more true today than it was then. #StandUp"

10:11PM - May 20, 2015

For what it's worth, the report never once said TNA was "going out of business." We simply said Destination America will be ending their TV deal. Bob and other TNA officials have yet to address that. Coincidence?!

UPDATE #2:

TNA has issued a statement titled “Regarding IMPACT WRESTLING” after the report from the Wrestling Observer Newsletter yesterday that Destination America made the decision to cancel Impact Wrestling. The statement reads as follows:

“It has come to our attention that several internet news sources have falsely attributed statements to TNA, its executives and broadcasting partner. These false statements constitute defamation and if necessary we will seek all legal remedies available to us.”
