There, I said it.

I know I'm very late to the party, but I haven't had the time (or the will... mainly due to the poor feedback) to go past the surface of the game and actually dig deep into it, until this month of August where I had a couple of weeks of holiday. And I came to see and appreciate the MANY gameplay improvements and additions that were implemented in WWE 2K15 that have definitely been downplayed and overlooked by the community (and fault also lies to 2K for not marketing them at all), and that represent significant steps towards realism.

Yes, several game modes, features and match types are missing from previous games, yes, MyCareer mode is boring and repetitive and yes, Online is baffling and the worst it has ever been. There's no denying that and I've been as disappointed as everyone else. Hell I even made this: https://www.youtube....h?v=tvfsXDO-2Bw

But people make it look like there's nothing positive about WWE 2K15 and that 2K didn't put much effort in developing the game. And that's definitely not the case and I'll show you why:

  • Getting the obvious out of the way... The new Stamina system. Which comes with many new additions including:
    • Crawling
    • Using the ropes to get up
    • Tired animations for moving around, climbing turnbuckle, tired strikes
    • Tired finishers, collapsing on the ground after executing them
    • Tired pin animations, crawling towards the opponent, and option to break up someone else's pin attempt while crawling on the ground
    • Crawling for hot tag - the only way it makes sense to happen!
  • The new Chain Wrestling system that happens at the beginning of the match got way too much hate, actually any of it would have been too much, since it's a GREAT addition, intelligently programmed and very well animated.

  • There is a brand new Grapple system which is the best and most intelligent the game has ever had. In the past we have been always forced to put the opponent into a "transition grapple" before executing a move, which never happens in real life. Now we finally have a system that resolves that problem, as different grapple moves can instead be executed by either pressing or holding the grapple button, with no "set up" required. In the meanwhile, the various former "transition grapples" such as the side headlock and armbar have now been moved to the aforementioned Chain Wrestling system... where they belong. GREAT thinking.

  • Speaking of Grapples... now moves are dynamic and go right into their unique animation when you initiate them, a great concept that has been obviously inspired from WWE All Stars and it was long awaited in the series, making the gameplay so much more fluid. If you don't know what I'm referring to... the generic "grappling animation" that preceeded each move has been removed; for example, the AA directly starts off with you bending to pick up the opponent, the RKO starts off with you launching directly into the air, the Chokeslam starts off directly with your hand reaching out for the opponent throat. And this happens for all moves and it's best seen into practice for all "striking" grapples that now actually feel like manual strikes and not "pre-determined cutscenes", for example: Sweet Chin Music, Trouble In Paradise, Bullhammer... or even any move that starts with a kick to the gut such as the Pedigree or a DDT, it's initiated (and reversed) with a kick animation, not a grapple. AMAZING stuff.

  • Charged Finishers: a HUGE improvement over Wake Up Taunts and an AMAZING idea. And you can even trigger a Charged Finisher while the opponent is standing, for example with his back turned, and release the button when you're ready to strike. It's really a great concept. The only thing that's missing is more "charged taunt" variety with individual animations for many Superstars that should have them, and the ability to assign the animation in Create-A-Moveset. Even though, possibly unknown for most, you can already use a small trick and cancel the "charge" by pressing L1 and then do your preferred taunt while the opponent gets up.

  • When you execute a move that requires some space to happen but you are close to the ropes, your character now automatically drags/rolls the opponent towards the middle of the ring (for both standing and grounded moves) before executing it. I've seen an influential review describe it as "drag people a short distance in a seemingly random direction before performing a grapple attack, for no apparent reason" and it's definitely not the case. It does need to be tweaked a bit, as the dragging sometimes triggers when it wouldn't be needed and viceversa, but this is a great idea and the perfect solution for this type of situations, being the right "middle way" between the warping/teleporting from old games, and the "execute-the-move-wherever-even-if-it-doesn't-look-right" of the latest few games.

  • When you climb the top rope, now the opponent not only waits on the ground (opponents getting up too quickly was a major problem in past games), but also automatically rolls closer to you into the perfect position to take (or reverse) the diving attack, an intelligent nod to the choreographed aspect of wrestling.

  • More:
    • New Skills & Abilities: putting this at the bottom because it's one of the few things that has been talked about and marketed extensively, but it's a huge improvement and an intelligent idea by developers.
    • Overall better game physics and real-time dynamic interaction with the environment, the ropes, the objects etc. There are still glitches obviously but it's a huge step-up and the physics does feel next gen.
    • All-new and more realistic Strikes animation, new close-range strikes
    • New and varied animations attribute-based and stamina-based (for example climbing turnbuckle at different speeds)
    • True weight detection: Size really matters now. Giants don't go down as easily when striked.
    • New Move Positions (although middle rope moves need to be expanded porting corner grapples that use the middle rope)
    • New Referee Animations which now realistically reacts to the moves and has many more more contextual motions
    • Support for new ring size for entrances and gameplay: let's not forget that this year the ring is for the first time the actual real-life size, and the huge difference in height (and width too) compared to previous games required the developers to manually tweak and change thousands of animations to support the new ring.

  • Extra: WWE Universe Mode is the best it has ever been, now introducing the Story Collection feature that allows you to see and pick the storylines you want rather than blindly playing through random rivalries without knowing what's going on (If you don't know what Story Collection is all about, read here! http://www.thesmackd...st-details-faqs), but not only that. Most of you overlook the amount of detail and dedication is put into programming such a mode, it can obviously been improved even further, but it handles shows, roster, titles, superstars, alignment detection, rivalries, stories etc. and all variables and branching possibilities are programmed and handled PERFECTLY, with great attention.

Now don't get me wrong, all the missing features represent a tough of a blow as they come, and there are several flaws like unresponsive controls, camera angles not triggering, etc. but at the same time, you have to acknowledge that making all of these improvements to gameplay in just one year is no small feat. WWE 2K15 builds an overall great foundation for the future. Infact, from a pure gameplay standpoint this is the best wrestling game ever made. Just giving 2K credit where it's due.

PS: SOUNDTRACK IS NOT THAT FN BAD as people make it to be. (well, except for We Dem Boyz lol)

Eh, I disgaree. I liked the animations they added, but aside from that, it was pretty awful.

  • Reversals were incredibly easy.
  • The controls were unresponsive. (sometimes to the point of absolutely not reacting at all)
  • Some of the filler animations made the matches look less realistic than the previous, arcadey gameplay
  • The create modes were borderline useless. Most CAWS looked the same, even with textures, Divas weren't in and you couldn't really create anything of worse with the insanely limited CAE and no titles or arenas.
  • The career mode was insanely repetetive and kind of pointless.
  • Online was unstable and laggy.
  • The soundtrack is a matter of taste, so you can't say "it's not that bad." Every opinion in regards to that is equally valid, and a majority of opinions simply didn't like it. Me included, by the way, but that's not relevant.

I could go on about little things, like the continously degrading weapons physics and things of such nature, but I'll leave it with these major points.

There's a reason this game is so universally disliked. I know, it's easy to find the minority role appealing, and it's also completely fine to like a bad game regardless. In fact, I say that's awesome. I am happy for those that still enjoyed this game. But it simply wasn't good. There's so many objective, technical and otherwise measurable downsides to it, it just wasn't good. Not at all. Not as a cohesive product.

I'm sure it was an important foundation for the future, but the game, just in itself, was crap.

I agree with Andy, heck i still play the game to this day. One thing you need to filter out of your mind when playing WWE 2K15 is that it is a finished game...and clearly its not. Its more like a foundation. A game meant to "test the water" if you will. Im not saying is great...or even good...but like Andy put it...its not that bad. WWE 2K16 wiill be the game we wanted last year. It will be the complete game. And it will come packed with a stunner to make that rest assured.

Oh God Andy, come on now xD

  • The stamina system was an interesting concept, but it drained way to quickly. It can be turned off but you still can't do sigs/fins with low stamina so turning it off is essentially pointless.
  • Using the ropes was another smart idea but it got tiring to see your player and especially the AI crawl over to it every single time. I'd rather just get up. It took too long and it could cost you the match in TLC matches.
  • Tired animations looked silly. If you were low on stamina and it took an age for you to climb to the top and you see your opponent running around... That never happens in WWE.
  • Breaking pins and crawling to the hot tag were good additions.
  • Chain wrestling was fine until you saw it too much, then you can tone it down but the AI is too dumb to make it realistic and the same thing happened every time. I liked that addition but it seemed half finished.
  • The new grapple system wasn't as good IMO. I'd prefer to drag someone and tie moves together with a hold. That worked way better for a game. Half the time on 15 I had no idea what move I was going to execute and getting someone in position took forever.
  • I'm pretty sure the grappling and striking animations were removed years ago.
  • Charged finishers was the same as wake up taunts but you couldn't do it from anywhere in the ring and with no special camera cut. I don't see how it's an improvement.
  • The dragging thing was another half finished feature and made the game seem more repetitive the more you saw the same boring animations. Using rag doll physics would fix this much better.
  • You still need to better someone thoroughly to perform a dive. Can you honestly say they stay down every time? The rollings was cool though.
  • I agree in with the stuff in your more section, those were true improvements.
  • The soundtrack was bad... Real bad.

Here's what was bad:

  • Almost every creation feature removed,s ome that were only just added to the series the year or two before.
  • Very limited amount of match-types, even obvious ones.
  • MyCareer was terrible.
  • I have no idea how Online worked at all. I don't even know how to get in a game and I didn't really want to try.
  • Only 25 CAW slots! With terrible lag in the CAW menus.
  • Couldn't even create divas, but you could edit them so it was possible.
  • Small roster (2K admitted this now, long after everyone has bought it -_-)
  • Various duplicates in that small roster
  • annoying Season Pass that didn't even give you anything
  • Very gimped PC release that was almost unplayable
  • They gave the DLC out for free after the hardcore fans bought it
  • Reversal fest gameplay, often with the same 2 reversal animations
  • Generally being a piece of crap compared to HCTP which came out in 2003

I'm not saying the game was unplayable. It was just bad. I play it all the time and I can admit that. I'd rather they had 2 years to work on it.

Going to be as short as possible as above was expressed all. Not a completely bad game (Risen or Fable lol), but it was a half made product. The cons were easily bigger than the pros. Features removed with a cleaver, awful career mode, disgraceful online (Max. 4 players on PS4). An average-good Showcase and a new gameplay system which was half good-half bad are the only reedemable elements. I'm not a fan of the new gameplay system, but there's a problem if you hit a tired finisher and a third guy gets the pin or when you get hit by a finisher in a TLC and loose because you didn't get up after your opponent went outside, put the ladder in, made the laundry, read a book, climbed the ladder, had a nap on top of it and finally retrieved the title.

2K15 got stained because 2K kept silent about removed match types , creation modes and lis limitations. fDon'tforget that we had to find everything for ourselves.

I'm alright playing 2k15 but the problem I have is MyCareer and the many modes that were taken out. And like Antonio said they were taken out without warning so I was even more disappointed. I felt they just focused on the graphics too much and should've focused on much more.

I agree with most of the things you guys said, my post mainly focused exclusively on the effort that was made for pure Gameplay. Not denying all the rest of lacking features, which I even mentioned them myself, or the fact that things can obviously still be improved upon.

I'm pretty sure the grappling animations were removed years ago.

Not exactly. They may were visually removed but it was as if they still were there as they were all initiated the same way. Now each move is initated based on its individual starting animation.

Charged finishers was the same as wake up taunts but you couldn't do it from anywhere in the ring and with no special camera cut. I don't see how it's an improvement.

I agree about the camera cut being missing but that's not strickly relevant to the dynamics of a feature, it's just a visual addition being missing. The feature is better because you "charge" the finisher and then the game does it for you in the smoothest way possible, especially works great for Running Finishers. Also, as I mentioned, you can even charge finishers with the opponent having his back turned. Holding triangle "stalking him" waiting until he turns around and then releasing it and hit the finisher is very satisfying.

You sure? Alright I'll believe you on that.

Well I just didn't like it at all. It felt like we had more freedom last year when we could do it from any angle or position. Also you could do it on the apron, on the top rope or anywhere. I'd rather not have to be near them and then do some weird waiting animation instead of taunting.

You sure? Alright I'll believe you on that.

To give you an idea, in previous games, the receiver of the move would lose control of his character when the opponent pressed triangle, and the revesal window was in that moment. When the opponent pressed triangle the animation would lock both characters to the move animation.

Now, the animation first starts independently for the attacker, while the receiver of the move still has full control of the character (unless he's stunned but that's not relevant). The actual move animation triggers when the attacker reaches the opponent, and the reversal window is at that moment.

Essentially now every grapple works as if it was a strike. Think of the Trouble In Paradise for example. Before, the animation trigger and the reversal window would be when the player pressed triangle. Now, Kofi does his flipping on his own (and might miss, too!) and the reversal is at the moment when the kick arrives. It's a huge improvement. Hope this explains it.

Also you could do it on the apron, on the top rope or anywhere.

You still can do them on the top rope, not on the apron unfortunately but that's because you can't do finishers from the apron position. I do wish they would add that as a position, and I also wish they implemented "charged signatures" as well, because they happen (think Taker with the Chokeslam).

I agree with Andy, I feel that the charged finishers and corner finishers add way more realism and they're one of my favourite new additions in 2k15. I hate how they had corner signatures but not charged signatures.

THE MARKETING IS STILL CRAPPY ON BEHALF OF 2K GAMES. I CAN'T TAKE THIS NON-ADVERTISING ANYMORE. ALSO, I'M ROOTING FOR 2K17 BECAUSE IT'S RUNNING ON FIVE YEARS SINCE I'VE LAST PLAYED A PROFESSIONAL WRESTLING GAME BECAUSE IT'S BEEN THAT BAD! I AM NOT KIDDING, I'VE BOYCOTTED THESE GAMES UNTIL THEY FIX THE ENTIRE ENGINE STARTING FROM THE GROUND UP. I liked everything gameplay wise. A friend was at the GameStop expo and he said that after playing 16 he can't go back to 15 at all cause 15 is that inferior. And he loved the gameplay of 15 on x1 so yeah and static you can perform signatures and finishers on low stamina I do it all the time.

I agree with Andy, I feel that the charged finishers and corner finishers add way more realism and they're one of my favourite new additions in 2k15. I hate how they had corner signatures but not charged signatures.

Yeah I just wish you could assign a charged taunt like the wake up taunts in 14

very true. i've said it countless times, i loved the game itself, it's the features that made the outside aspects of the game great that was lacking. Once i started to ignore the lack of creation features and match types, I really started enjoying it. To be fair i'm at Hell In A Cell 2013 in my 2013 universe and i've actually never gotten past the June PPV in my universes in the past. 14 had too many freeze glitches in universe, 13 had the pin glitch, 12 moves wouldn't connect, 11 it was too limited. So i really think 2k15 really formed a base of what they can start working on to get us to a much better place than THQ ever did. For the record i didn't hate THQ, I just thought that the higherups didn't give a damn about the series. they cared more about Udraw and we all know that was the beginning of their downfall.

I never said you hated THQ but I've mentioned that you've been like their most aggressive defense lawyer (alright I didn't use those exact words, haha) but you've made a reputation for pointing out that THQ fixed this and that but that they didn't deserve all the flack fans gave them. For me, I grew to hate THQ after witnessing their quality drop so much in recent memory and I couldn't fathom 2K Games following in their footsteps so I'm surprised that 2K15 bombed so badly but then again....John Cena is on the cover so what do I expect? HEY, DIDN'T YOU MAKE A PARODY VERSION OF WHAT WAS LACKING IN 2K15 AND WHERE'S THE JOKES ABOUT NO DIVAS OR 1,000 LESS MATCH TYPES? I'M GETTING IMPATIENT, ANDY. WHY YOU LIKE 2K GAMES NOW? THERE, I SAID IT. BUT ALSO, TELL ME ONE MORE THING....IF SITTERSON IS GIVING YOU PROBLEMS THEN I'M GONNA HAVE TO PUT MY ASS KICKIN' BOOTS ON TONIGHT AND WHERE'S THE DAMN COMMERCIALS FOR 2K17 ALREADY? IT'S ALREADY IN DEVELOPMENT! GIVE ME A BREAK. FAAAAACCCK!!!!

Loool. Yeah I did made that parody and mentioned it above too! Just pointing out that there are some positive as well. And...well, if I didn't like WWE Games and had passion for them despite everything, this site wouldn't still exist :P

very true. i've said it countless times, i loved the game itself, it's the features that made the outside aspects of the game great that was lacking.

XDXDXDXDXDXD

no it wasn't thq i really was trying to defend at that time lol only the WWEGames portion of the company. the company itself was pretty incompetent. I know marcus and bryan williams both mentioned that THQ preferred to market their UDraw tablet over WWE13. That became the downfall for the company lol. I say the reason why 2k15 bombed so badly was 1. 2K didn't know how to market it.  They thought they could market it just like the NBA2K series and realized they couldn't.  Marcus tried to tell them this in October but they wouldn't listen. 2. They were using the people leftover from the MLB2k series (Albeit when that series ended it was the best it had ever been imo) and they knew nothing about wrestling games at the time. 3. Cena being on the cover kinda was feeling like a bad omen.  I don't dislike cena like most people do but Putting Cena on the cover just wasn't a great choice in my views.  I've come to accept that since SVR2010. every other wwegames game has been somewhat bad.

SVR2010 was very good, 11 was bad with all the removals. 12 was good with the improvements/reboots, 13 was bad with the 1 count glitch. 14 was awesome the best it had been in a long while. 15 was almost on the scale of SVR08 in terms of level of customization. So hopefully 2k16 ends that other year curse LOL
