HCTP was great bcuz of gameplay, graphics, and much more. The replay value was amazing. On a 1-10 scale story mode was a 9. Only thing bad i can say about hctp is caws looked kinda bad, and no voice overs. Overall the best wwe game. Imo only svr 2006 comes close to it

I dont know why, i enjoyed it because i played it with my best friend who i havent seen or heard from in over 5 years. We had so much fun playing it, we made like a stable of pimps and kicked ass in the elimination chamber. I like it for memories to be honest i dont remember any of the specifics of it.

because they dident screw it up like they did with the newer games. (well that can also be because the scat always plays online where the glitchs come into play =( )

That game had the best control scheme out of them all. The story mode I'd say is 8/10 and only two other WWE games REALLY compared to it, Shut Your Mouth, and 2006.

Shut Your Mouth had THE BEST story mode EVER in a WWE game and 2006 had Locker Room, GM Mode, and opening match minigames

It's only my opinion when I say this, but to be honest I don't know why people say it's the best one. I like it, but at the same time I think it's pretty overrated.

Overall, it's the most well-rounded WWE game ever released.

1. Fast gameplay that doesn't slow down even when beaten within an inch of losing
2. A control system that was easy to grasp from the first time playing, even after leaving the game for many years coming back to it was still bloody easy to do.
3. A season mode that can be repeated again & again with different wrestlers, outcomes & rivalries possible.
4. Fighting backstage, simply put it owns; too bad this wasn't fully repeated like it was here in future games. Having the ability to ride a bike, a forklift & go into Times Square & brawl was so fun, it's like all those Jakks Pacific Backstage Playsets finally come life!
5. A roster that at the time boasted a past, present & future of wrestling; it seemed like a complete roster with guys you would WANT to use in game, rather than consisting of too much filler that you would pass on.
6. The introduction of the Elimination Chamber & blood to gameplay made it even more exciting, plus for all those diva lovers out there; the Bra & Panties Match also got put in too.
7. Even though the graphics weren't the best, they did there job. Almost 9 years later, the graphics still look good on my giant ass flatscreen... GTA: San Andreas's graphics look shit compared all the years later from that (despite it being made later than HCTP).
8. It has a huge amount of replay value, basically all of the above justifies that; I still find it hard to play which adds to the challenge.

If all of what I've said doesn't sum it all up I have no idea what will!

Why? Because

You could do cool things like that which are basically non-existant in todays SvR games. You had a lot more freedom with the older games.

But I gotta say. I've been advocating HCTP as a great game for years, but it's not without it's flaws. It gets really boring after a while because the AI is SO predictable. It's not really hard to win matches even if you're playing on Smackdown! difficulty. Unless you're playing against The Rock, haha.

Thats the way I REMEMBER it but I could be wrong about that. Has anyone else experienced this?

Yea me , i have only one word that can describe this game and the word is AWESOME ! The game was the most hardcore WWE game ever and when you hit someone with a chair you can feel the impact , it's that simple , the game had everything that the fans could think of ! Im still waiting the day that we will get something like it on the PS3.. If you noticed THQ is trying to make a game that is close to it ! the 2nd perfect WWE game might be WWE'14 or '15 ~.~
Im very happy that i still have it and still play it untill these days and i akso have Smackdown! Shut ur mouth and both are AMAZING ! Thanks RatedRKO97 for taking me back in time ;)

It was pretty much a perfect WWE game.

Great roster (last game Stephaine McMahon was a playable character for ;) )
Great AI
Perfect balance between fast paced & realism
Season mode that has replay value
Good CAW mode

THQ didn't water this game down to appease the kids (much like they've been doing to WWE games for the past three years or so since WWE went PG)

HCTP simply has the (5) things IMO that makes a great wrestling video game:

*Replay value
*Entertainment value
*Playability
*Gameplay
*Depth

Good CAW mode

I HATED the CAW mode in HCTP... it was the ONE thing that let it down in my opinion. I found it hard to use & it always gave me CAW's that looked really weird & distorted.
