Hey guys, I just thought I'd share a review of the PPV where I sum up the matches and give my opinion on them too. So lets start.
1st Match: Dolph Ziggler Ā© vs Zack Ryder, US Championship.
To kick the PPV off we heard the welcoming screech of Vickie Guerrero to introduce Dolph Ziggler, whom the later was sporting a new Titan Tron, theme and attire. After a cocky entrance by Ziggler, Zack Ryder made his entrance, the crowd was pumped and were like this throughout the bout, favoring the face, Ryder. The match kicked off with Ryder earning momentum from the start, he hit some well executed moves, including a springboard senton. As Zack continued to play to the crowd with his Woo Woo Woo chants, I had to admit the atmosphere was amazing. However with Dolph starting to regain control of the match, Zack Ryder hit a flurry of moves, eventually to go into the pinfall only to be stopped by Vickie who was then banished from her managerial role. Ziggler gained momentum again, but after a reversed corner move by Ryder, which lead into a double knee to the face for Dolph, Zack hit the Rough Ryder, which I thought Ziggler sold very well, picking up the 3 count to win the US Championship.
Overall the match was brilliant. It featured back and forth high paced action from both competitors. Dolph and Zack both sold, and executed moves extremely well, but particularly Zack whose wrestling skill was much improved. He even hit some high-flying moves you'd expect to see from a cruiserweight such as a springboard front flip, missile dropkicks and a Frankensteiner from the Top-Rope. To sum it up, it was a great match, and a fully deserved title win for Zack Ryder who will be looking for a push now that he holds the championship.
2nd Match: Air Boom Ā© vs Primo and Epico, w/ Rosa Mendes, Tag Team Championship.
Speaking of cruiserweights the next match was Air Boom vs Primo and Epico, who have been on a roll of momentum at the moment. The match was again high paced an and interesting 7 minute match, Primo and Epico dominated the match throughout, with spurts of Air Boom in between. The role of Rosa Mendes was basically to stand next to the ring and continue to be the Eye Candy of the contenders, which Jerry Lawler loved on commentary. After a few double team moves by both teams, Evan Bourne hit a nice Top-Rope high flying dive to Epico, (I believe, correct me if I'm wrong), which then set up Kingston to hit the Trouble in Paradise to Primo, picking up the 3 count for Air Boom. Overall it was a good, solid match, and got the crowd pumped up again for the next match.
3rd Match: Randy Orton vs Wade Barrett, Tables Match.
Randy Orton was obviously favored by the crowd to win this match, however Barrett took control over most of the match, with nice moves such as Sidewalk Slams and his traditional arrogance and cockiness. It seemed Wade was going to dominate the match, and then go on to win it as he set up for a Wasteland from the apron onto the floor whilst putting Orton through a table on the way. However Orton came back with his comeback moment, this reminded me of WWE 12, as he hit a couple of clotheslines and a snap powerslam, however Barrett took control again hitting a Sidewalk Slam, then setting up for a Diving Elbow drop through the table on Orton. However Randy was playing possum on the table and as soon as Wade jumped, Orton hit him with an RKO in mid air, through the table. I thought Barrett sold this move well, and it was inventive by WWE. Again another great match which lasted roughly 12 minutes.
4th Match: Beth Phoenix Ā© vs Kelly Kelly, Divas Championship.
The match was set up nicely with a short promo on how the match came to be, this showed last weeks action on RAW which included Lita, Kelly, Beth and Natalya. The match has some good moves such as hurricanrana's, faceplants and eventually Beth retained with an Alley Oop Facebuster, I believe its called. Overall the match was a bit boring and consisted of a lot of screaming. However on the bright side it did give me the opportunity to get some crisps and Red Bull at about 1:35 am in the UK lol xD.
5th Match: Triple H vs Kevin Nash, Sledgehammer Ladder Match.
Again the match was set up with a cool promo that showed what has happened since Nash returned to the WWE. The action started with Kevin Nash and HHH fighting outside, both gaining and losing momentum. The fight then continued inside with Hunter going after Nash's knees' to "ground the big man" as quoted by everyone's favorite commentator, Michael Cole. The fight picked up with moves on ladders and to ladders, most notably Triple H locking in a figure four on Nash whilst a ladder was wrapped round his legs, again the Ric Flair "Woo!" chants picked up. During the end of the match HHH went for the Hammer, only to be stopped by Nash who then was knocked off the ladder through a table, which gave Triple H the chance to redeem his signature weapon. After brutalising Nash with the sledgehammer, he hit a pedigree. Finally to finish of the match Nash got up and gave HHH the ole' Kliq sign, which Hunter rejected with a chop to his crotch, and a Suck It! chant, and then gave a final blow to Nash's skull to pick up the 3 count.
Overall the match was very good, it had some great moves and again the fan favourite picked up the win.
6th Match: Sheamus vs Jack Swagger.
In the only non-stipulated match of the night, Sheamus and Jack Swagger went toe-to-toe after a little promo in which Teddy Long booked the match. Sheamus mostly dominated the match, again there were some great moves by both candidates, Swagger-Bombs, Powerslams, Top-Rope moves, and in the end Sheamus picked up the win with a Brogue Kick, overall the match was a cool 5 minute filler.
7th Match: Mark Henry Ā© vs Big Show, World Heavyweight Championship, Chairs Match.
The start of the match was quite funny with Big Show going round the outside, throwing chairs intro the ring which Mark Henry was swotting off, at one case a Steel Chair nearly hit the referee lol. After Mark Henry pretended to walk out of the match with his title, he turned round and went to club Big Show with it, who ducked and then hit Henry with numerous chair shots to the back. The match was a bit boring and slow paced, it consisted of chair shot, after chair shot, after chair shot, but then out of nowhere Big Show hit Henry with a W.M.D to pick up the 3 count and win the WHC. However he could not celebrate as Henry hit Show with a DDT onto a chair. This was a perfect set up for what happened next.
8th Match: Big Show Ā© vs Daniel Bryan, World Heavyweight Championship.
Thats right, Daniel Bryan cashed in his Money in the Bank contract and won the World Heavyweight Championship, much to Jerry Lawlers amusement and Michael Cole's bitterness. However as Bryan was celebrating Cole stated Daniel was a hypocrite because he said he would cash it in at WrestleMania, which he didn't, great comeback Cole xD.
Match 9: Cody Rhodes Ā© vs Booker T, Intercontinental Championship.
After attacking Booker from behind twice earlier in the show, Cody Rhodes was been dominated by Booker T at the start of the match, however Cody battled back with a few moves that put Booker on the back foot. However the action got back in the ring Booker hit a few elbows and then a spinebuster, after going for a Thrust Kick and then a Scissors kick, which were both blocked by Rhodes, Cody hit two Beautiful Disaster's to pick up the pinfall.
Again the match was solid, medium paced but enjoyable to watch.
Match 10, Main Event: CM Punk Ā© vs The Miz vs Alberto Del Rio, Triple Threat TLC Match, WWE Championship.
The WWE Championship TLC match took centre stage of the event. It started with Alberto and Miz teaming up to wear down CM Punk, however the alliance was over when Del Rio clubbed Miz over the back with a chair. Unknowingly Del Rio was caught by Punk who hit a suicide dive to the Mexican whilst he was carrying a ladder. Punk then focused his intentions onto Miz who he hit with a Shining Wizard, however as Punk was going to slam Miz's skull onto a chair with a bulldog, the self proclaimed, "Awesome" superstar reversed it, and in turn hit Punk with a back suplex onto the standing chair. The action incorporated with Ladder's Table's and Chair's continued as Miz went to hit Del Rio with a Skull Crushing Finale, only to have it reversed into a back drop onto a ladder. Punk then again gained control over the match and started hitting Miz with a half-a-dozen chair shots. With both superstars out of the equation Punk went to complete the goal of the match and reclaim his Championship hanging high above the ring. Out of the blue Ricardo Rodriguez hand-cuffed Punk to the ladder whilst the straight-edge superstar was on top of it. Punk was then able to break free however, and then nailed Del Rio with the handcuffs. After a couple of battles on the ladder between The Miz and Punk, the later was setting up for a superplex to The Miz. However Del Rio jumped back into action and hit Punk with a Top-Rope Enziguri, sending him crashing to the ground floor through a table. Del Rio then was in the pole position, locking cross armbreakers, on both Miz and Punk, whilst also using ladders and chairs to increase the pain. Alberto then looked to win the title, however Punk and Miz knocked him off the ladder, as he hit the ring ropes with force, right in the "carones" as the Mexican would say. Again out of the blue Del Rios manager climbed up the ladder to try and retrieve the title, however Miz and Punk again sent him crashing down off the ladder, out of the ring and through two tables. In a turn of events though Miz handcuffed Punk to the middle turnbuckle pad, Miz taunting Punk, but only to be nailed in the head with a roundhouse kick by the champion. Del Rio and Miz were both back in the ring though, as CM Punk battled against the turnbuckle to free himself, eventually he did and then climbed up the ladder to battle Del Rio who was sent flying, Punk then initiated a GTS to Miz, as he climbed up the ladder to reclaim the championship, in which was a brilliant, exciting and enjoyable Main Event.
Overall the PPV was a huge success, probably because the faces won nearly every match. However the Creative Team had done a brilliant job and in my opinion was one of the best Pay Per Views of the year. The only disappointing part was the Divas match, but that didnt spoil the success of the PPV. The absence of John Cena was unnoticed by myself. Hopefully WWE can continue this great momentum into 2012, but on this night, they defiantly had their thinking caps on.
Overall WWE TLC 2011 deserves a 9/10.
This is my first PPV review, if enjoyed please let me know, as I may continue doing these.
Thanks for Reading B).
