They took a WWE '13 screenshot and superimposed "WWE 2K" on it. Big deal.

UPDATE x2: According to IGN, the WWE video game series will be rebranded under the "2K" series. The next WWE game to be released will be titled, "WWE 2K14," and will come out in the fall.

UPDATE: According to ESPN's Jon Robinson, WWE has signed a 5 year contract with Take-Two Interactive who now own the exclusive rights to WWE's video game license. Here is an excerpt from the article…

As part of the five-year deal (financial terms were not disclosed), Take-Two has not only hired some of the key designers behind the WWE gaming franchise from THQ to work hand in hand with 2K Sports' game design team at Visual Concepts, but has also agreed to bring back longtime WWE games developer Yukes from Japan to continue pushing ahead with the development of "WWE 14," ensuring the new game will hit its fall 2013 release window.

ORIGINAL: The United States Bankruptcy court in Delaware moved to approve the plan to sever WWE's ties to THQ, allowing them to sign a new deal with Take Two Games for their video game franchise, starting with WWE '14. The move was made official yesterday. THQ had been working on transferring the rights for a while now, including creating a list of ten potential buyers. Three of those buyers completed due diligence with THQ, WWE and Yukes but none wanted to take over existing contracts due to the huge amount of debt owed to WWE and Yukes.

Take Two wanted to work with both and were allowed to enter into a new, fresh contract with new terms. THQ arranged the negotiations while also working on getting released from their contractual obligations with WWE and Yukes. They help set them up with a new company in exchange for having some of their debt cleared. They claimed that they would save millions by reducing claims against them and the court agreed.

Here is what happened:

- THQ terminated their relationship with WWE and gave up the rights to all future games.

- WWE waved any rights to go after THQ for damages.

- WWE will get a payment of $650,000 for royalties owed for sales of WWE '13 during the bankruptcy process.

- THQ also terminated their relationship with Yukes, which worked on the WWE games. Yukes will now sign a deal with Take Two.

- THQ will transfer all ownership of Yukes stock in exchange for Yukes giving up claims of damages of $15-20 million against them.

- THQ will pay Yukes $250,000 in royalties for sales of WWE '13.

Take Two will now take over employing the team that worked on the games, saving THQ from firing them and removing a potential six figure severance payday from THQ's financial ledgers. THQ is currently selling off its assets piece by piece after not selling it all off to an investment firm that would have saved the company.

WWE and Take Two should make an official announcement soon.

RKHT: I love it when a plan comes together, this collaboration and business agreement is long overdue. WWE's future games will now have Take-Two Interactive leading the way with Yukes.

Added Argent: “Everything that we’ve done with NBA is what we’re trying to contribute to WWE. So the growth that you’ve see in the NBA franchise from the authenticity in the game to the excitement of the marketing that surrounds it is all something we expect to add to the franchise. We’re going to create one hell of a video game franchise.”

That quote right there pumps me up! I love what they did with the NBA games and the NFL games (when they had the license) so I really can't wait to play 2K14!
I just hope the former THQ employees let 2K do their own thing. Even Shitterson got his job -.-

2K need to start the WWE franchise over and fresh to get the perfect game, maybe we won't get that this year due to the time they have to develop it but I'm excited to see how this all plays out. :D

Wow, just off of this thread alone I find this site WAY better than the whiney crying bitch fest that is caws.ws, I see a lot of positive reactions.  I can't wait to dig deeper into this forum :)

I feel really that this can be a fresh and exciting start to a new era of wrestling gaming.

No sh*t.

I hope they release a WWE game for the current-gen this year. I still have a lot of games to play on my PS3 before buying a PS4.

Damn it, damn it and damn it.

I never saw footage from a 2K Sports game (only a screenshot from NBA2K13 for the WiiU) and... I guess it will be freakign awesome!

I expect the game being released on PS3, PSVita, PC and Xbox 360, later in Spring 2014 to the next-gen consoles.
