The championship was first established on August 26, 2012.
This is a newer version of the CMLL Japan Women's Championship, with its own distinct lineage.
Officially called "Campeonato Internacional Femenil del CMLL" in spanish.
This title is open to national and international wrestlers.
This title is open for all female wrestlers without a weight limit.
The CMLL International Women's Championship was retired on November 6, 2019.
A similar championship, the CMLL Japan Women's Championship, has been later introduced, which does not share the lineage with this title.
