SMASH was a pro wrestling promotion based in Tokyo, Japan, operating at a Regional level.
The SMASH promotion was founded on February 2, 2010 by Yoshihiro Tajiri, and it ceased operations on March 14, 2012.
After the demise of the zany sports entertainment project Hustle, and a planned rebirth of the promotion which fell through, Smash was established in 2010 by Yoshihiro Tajiri, backed by financial backers such as Masakazu Sakai. Using his own experience in sports entertainment, and through connections with Hustle/Pride fighter Akira Shoji, Smash would be set up in three divisions: professional wrestling, MMA, and kickboxing.
Like its aforementioned predecessor, Smash would attract an audience drawn to its unique production value within the world of puroresu, with an added emphasis in European and joshi talent. The promotion would have many flirts with the world of not just MMA, but amateur wrestling too. After a major disagreement between Tajiri and Sakai, Smash announced it would fold after just 2 years, but would soon be followed-up by Wrestling New Classic. The remaining MMA infrastructure of Smash would be subsumed into Pancrase.
