Wrestling New Classic was a Indie pro wrestling promotion based in Tokyo, Japan, operating at a Regional level.
The WRESTLING NEW CLASSIC promotion was founded on April 5, 2012 by Yoshihiro Tajiri & Tsutomu Takashima, and it ceased operations on June 26, 2014.
A direct successor to Yoshihiro Tajiri’s first promotion Smash, which itself was a spiritual successor to Hustle years prior, Wrestling New Classic (WNC) was founded in the same vein of sports entertainment style wrestling. The promotion continued Smash’s relationship with Finnish promotion Fight Club Finland, and had a more frequent schedule of shows compared to Smash.
Unlike Hustle/Smash, WNC struggled in the way of establishing homegrown talent, as it relied more on indie talent rather than true main event level talent. Despite this, they frequently cross-promoted with other wrestlers and their promotions, such as Kana (WWE’s Asuka), and Keiji Muto. As a rather average indie promotion, WNC closed down in 2014 after an indefinite hiatus, and would become subsumed into Muto’s Wrestle-1 promotion.
