NWA Mid-America was a Territory pro wrestling promotion operating in the United States, based in Memphis, Tennessee.
The MID AMERICA promotion was founded on April 1, 1940 by Roy Welch, Joe Gunther, Manda Gunther, and it ceased operations on September 13, 1980.
NWA Mid-America would begin in the western Tennessee city of Memphis in the early 1940s by a consortium of local promoters. When Roy Welch joined with Nick Gulas in 1947, the promotion would begin to expand out of state into Kentucky, soon after joining the NWA in 1949, and officially being named NWA Mid-America. The territory would soon expand into eastern Tennessee once Joe Cazana joined in 1953. Mid-America would achieve prosperity in the next two decades with a strong penchant for tag team wrestling, but would begin to splinter in the 1970s when Gulas continued to make poor booking decisions, leading to a major split in 1977 when Jerry Jarrett split from the company to form the Continental Wrestling Association. By 1980-1981, the dying promotion would close its doors and sell off its remaining territorial power to the CWA.
