World Wrestling All-Stars was a pro wrestling promotion based in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia, operating at an international level.
The WORLD WRESTLING ALL STARS promotion was founded on October 19, 2001 by Andrew McManus, and it ceased operations on May 25, 2003.
During the immediate aftermath of WCW’s demise, Australian concert promoter Andrew McManus sought to fill the gap in the wrestling world left behind by WCW and ECW’s collapse. Hiring WCW ring announcer Jeremy Borash as booker/head of talent, World Wrestling All-Stars (WWA) signed numerous wrestlers left behind after both companies fell, and held its first tour beginning in October 2001.
Based primarily in Australia, WWA held numerous tours throughout Europe and North America, featuring names such as Sting and Scott Steiner, as well as future indie talent that would sign for TNA, such as AJ Styles and Low Ki. Despite the promising setup, WWA confronted various problems during their time as a promotion, from expanding on WCW 2000-era storylines, to advertised main event talent skipping out on shows.
Running on PPV format, WWA closed in 2003 without much fanfare, but arguably laid the groundwork for what would become TNA. WWA is often compared to another post-WCW promotion, the X Wrestling Federation of 2001-02.
