X Wrestling Federation was a pro wrestling promotion based in Orlando, Florida, USA, operating at a Regional level.
The X WRESTLING FEDERATION promotion was founded on November 13, 2001 by Brian Knobbs, Greg Valentine, & Jimmy Hart, and it ceased operations on February 23, 2002.
Out of the demise of WCW, the X Wrestling Federation (XWF) was one of multiple promotions intended to platform wrestlers out of contract, under the direction of veterans in Brian Knobbs, Greg Valentine, and Jimmy Hart. Unlike the raunchy WWF product of the time, the XWF intended to be a clean, family-friendly alternative for wrestling on TV.
For a while, it was believed Hulk Hogan (close friend of Knobbs/Hart) would be attached to the product, but ended up appearing on only one show. The XWF were unable to attract a TV deal, even after attracting investors such as Kevin Harrington, ending up only filming a handful of taped episodes. The XWF quietly faded in 2002, but was nearly revived years later in 2004 by Jimmy Hart, which ended up leading only to a DVD release.
On said DVD, the “X” in XWF is said to have stood for “Xcitement” and not “Xtreme” as is sometimes believed. The XWF is often compared to another post-WCW promotion, World Wrestling All-Stars of 2001-03.
