The championship was first established on April 21, 1946.

Officially called "Campeonato Peso Welter de Occidente del CMLL" in spanish.

This championship is defended exclusively in the state of Jalisco and mostly in the Arena Coliseo Guadalajara of CMLL.

This title is for Welterweight division wrestlers, with weight limit between 70 kg (150 lb) to 77 kg (170 lb)

The Occidente Welterweight Championship was retired on December 31, 2020.
