The championship was first established on November 6, 1952.
Officially called "Campeonato Mundial de Peso Semi Completo de la NWA" in spanish.
This title is for Light Heavyweight division wrestlers, with weight limit between 87 kg (192 lb) to 97 kg (214 lb)
The NWA World Light Heavyweight Championship was retired on February 26, 2014.
A similar championship, the NWA World Historic Light Heavyweight Championship, has been later introduced, which does not share the lineage with this title.
