The championship was first established on February 18, 2025, and the inaugural champion was Kylie Rae.

The WWE ID Women's Championship is a title created and promoted by WWE, but open to all independent Woman wrestlers; it's part of the WWE Independent Development (ID) program, which is designed to provide a pathway for independent wrestlers to transition into WWE.

The title is defended also across partner independent promotions; if a non-WWE ID wrestler wins the title, she will receive a WWE ID contract.
