The championship was first established on March 16, 1986, and the inaugural champion was Buzz Sawyer.
This is a newer version of the MSWA Mid-South Television Championship, with its own distinct lineage.
The UWF Television Championship was retired on November 26, 1987, when it was unified into the NWA World Television Championship, with the final champion being Nikita Koloff.
