Pro Wrestling NOAH

Pro Wrestling NOAH is a Major pro wrestling promotion based in Tokyo, Japan, operating at a National level.

The NOAH promotion was founded on June 16, 2000 by Mitsuharu Misawa.

A company formed out of the exodus of wrestlers from AJPW, mirroring the biblical story of Noah’s Ark, Noah was founded by Mitsuharu Misawa after a tense feud with AJPW owner Motoko Baba. Pro Wrestling NOAH sought to give its wrestlers and fans better presentation, compensation, and provide opportunity for junior heavyweight stars to emerge.

Noah prides itself (to this day) on a hard hitting wrestling format named King Road’s style (with Ark). The company is seen as a spiritual successor to the 90s All Japan product, and during the mid-2000s was arguably the biggest wrestling company in Japan. After years of inability to create new stars to replace the original Pillars of Heaven, as well as an over-reliance on said Pillars, Noah depended heavily on its founder and top draw Misawa to carry the company. When Misawa tragically died in the ring in June 2009, aged just 46, shockwaves were sent throughout the wrestling world.

Since 2009, the company has weathered controversy, from leaked connections to the yakuza, a lopsided partnership with NJPW during the mid-2010s, and buyouts from various corporate owners. Noah is still regarded as one of the major three traditional promotions of Japan, producing shows at the iconic Nippon Budokan arena every now and then.
