Stampede Wrestling was a Territory pro wrestling promotion based in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.
The STAMPEDE promotion was founded on September 11, 1948 by Stu Hart, Al Oeming, and it ceased operations on November 6, 2011.
It was a prominent force in western Canada and the Canadian Prairies for nearly 50 years. Stampede Wrestling frequently competed with other regional promotions like NWA All-Star Wrestling and Pacific Northwest Wrestling and held events at venues such as Victoria Pavilion, Ogden Auditorium, and Stampede Corral.
In 1984, the promotion was purchased by Vince McMahon and briefly operated under the World Wrestling Federation (WWF) before being sold back to the Hart family in 1985. Bruce Hart ran the promotion until January 1990, and he and Ross Hart revived it in 1999, focusing on events in Alberta.
Stampede Wrestling is well-known for its training facility, "The Dungeon," which produced many prominent wrestlers who gained fame in WWF and other major promotions during the 1980s and 1990s. The promotion also created one of the earliest televised wrestling programs, which was highly popular in Calgary and aired in over 50 countries.
