World Wrestling Association (Indianapolis) was a pro wrestling promotion operating in the United States, based in Indianapolis, Indiana.
The WWA IN promotion was founded on March 26, 1964 by Dick The Bruiser & Wilbur Snyder, and it ceased operations on June 25, 1989.
A territory purchased from regional kingpin Jim Barnett, the World Wrestling Association promoted in the Indianapolis region initially, gaining further control of wrestling in Chicago after purchasing Fred Kohler Enterprises. The WWA would run in conjunction with another independent territory in the American Wrestling Association, exchanging talent as outsiders to the NWA system. Because of talent aging out and without many future prospects, the WWA fizzled out for much of the 1980s, but persevered in running shows despite the WWF’s expanding presence at the time. Much of late stage WWA history is now lost to time, though the biggest reminder of their reach exists in the careers of future Hall of Famers Bobby “the Brain” Heenan, and “Big Poppa Pump” Scott Steiner.
