The championship was first established on May 13, 2007, and the inaugural champion was Kurt Angle.
This is a newer version of the NWA Worlds Heavyweight Championship, with its own distinct lineage.
The Impact Grand Championship and TNA World Heavyweight Championship (unofficial) were previously unified into this championship.
The current champion is Nic Nemeth, who won the title at TNA Slammiversary 2024 on July 20, 2024, and has been reigning for 143 days.
