The championship was first established on February 23, 2008, and the inaugural champions were Eddie Colón & Eric Pérez.

The FCW Florida Tag Team Championship was retired on August 14, 2012, with the final champions being Brad Maddox & Rick Victor.

A similar championship, the NXT Tag Team Championship, has been later introduced, which does not share the lineage with this title.
