The Money in the Bank Ladder Match is a special pro wrestling match type held in WWE, where the objective is to retrieve a briefcase suspended above the ring.
The briefcase contains a contract that grants the winner the right to challenge for a WWE Championship or World Championship (and the equivalent titles for Women) at any time and place of their choosing within one year. While holding the briefcase, the wrestler is commonly referred to as "Mr. Money in the Bank".
The Money in the Bank concept was first introduced at WrestleMania 21 in 2005 and has since become a regular feature of WWE programming. In 2010, the match became the main event of an annual pay-per-view event, Money in the Bank. The match typically features multiple participants, and it is won by climbing a ladder to retrieve the briefcase.
Both men's and women's versions of the match exist, with the first women's Money in the Bank match taking place in 2017.
